Facts about Facial Tanning
A beautiful golden tan is something many women seek. Facial tanning can only even that gorgeous tan out. Facial tans have not always been available, but now are on the market everywhere. If you are looking into facial tanning, there are a few options you can choose to get the job done.
Although controlled exposure to sunlight is a great benefit, excessive exposure to UV rays are not good for you at all. It can damage your eyes, wrinkle your skin, cause skin cancer and can give you rashes.
Tanning in any fashion is done in phases. The first phase is called immediate pigment darkening; it does not involve higher production of melanin. The second phase, delayed tanning, takes place about 48 hours after exposure and sustains for weeks, where melanin is produced in higher qualities.
There are two types of UV rays you will get from the sun, UVA and UVB.
UVA are known to:
- have a wavelength range of 320 to 400 nm.
- release preexisting melanin from the melanocytes to combine with oxygen, turning the skin tan.
- less likely to cause cancer.
- be blocked less than UVB.
UVB are known to:
- be more likely to cause a burn.
- produce vitamin D.
- cause skin aging.
- trigger the formation of CPD-DNA damage.
Face Tanning Lamps – Face tanning lamps are available for home use. There are a number of at home face tanners. As with any lamp or heating equipment, be sure to stay with the machine only as long as indicated by the machine's help and safety guide. If you are in any kind of UV rays for too long it can have a diverse affect on your skin.
Sunless Tanning Lotion - Sunless tanning lotions are usually dark in color. The market today offers a million different types of sunless tanning products that range in shades from light to dark. They range from those made for sensitive skin, some have sun blocks, while others are for different skin types.
When using self tanning products, make sure you purchase a good quality product, as some of these products can leave streaks if 1) it's not a quality tanning product or 2) you did not rub it into your skin deep enough or long enough.
Talk to a salon professional before you decide on what’s best for you, as both of these (sunless tanning lotion and face tanning lamps) could have adverse affects on you. You can damage your skin in a number of ways or you may not be satisfied with the results.
Facial tanning and any types of tanning has always carried a controversy on how bad it is for your skin. A researcher at the University of Harvard, Edward Giovannucci stated that moderate tanning is healthier than once thought. He concluded that those with enough vitamin D due to UV exposure may prevent thirty deaths for each one due to skin cancer.
Just remember the consequences for overexposure if you are using the sun or any type of tanning bed, as this can cause skin cancer or other skin problems. It's always recommended if you are in the sun for an extended period of time, apply a coat of sun block.
